What is Regenerative Medicine?

Precision Healing, Backed by Science

Regenerative medicine is a medical field focused on restoring, repairing, or regenerating damaged tissues using biologic materials from the body.

At the Regenerative Medicine Institute of Canada (RMIC), we use the power of science to help your body heal. We don’t just treat symptoms — we target the source.

Our signature Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ is reshaping what’s possible in orthopedic care: a precision-engineered, minimally invasive biologic procedure designed to restore function, reduce pain, and reimagine what your body can do.

Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ isn’t just an alternative to surgery — it’s a scientific leap forward.

Don’t accept living with your pain any longer.

Precision Healing, Backed by Science

Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ is built on a powerful insight: your own fat tissue has untapped potential to repair and restore.

Our process — Precision Adipose Modulation™ — isolates the most potent components of your fat tissue and delivers them directly to the source of your pain or dysfunction so that you can return to the activities you love. In some cases, we may also incorporate platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to further amplify your body’s healing response.

What you get is a targeted, minimally invasive therapy that can:

  • Relieve pain
  • Improve mobility
  • Reverse some underlying causes of joint degeneration
  • Delay or avoid surgery altogether
  • Help you return to the life you love — faster

Research shows that patients can experience meaningful improvements for years after a single treatment.

Why Choose RMIC?

RMIC is Canada’s leading institution in non-surgical regenerative orthopedic care.

Unlike traditional care models that focus on masking symptoms or offering surgery as the default, we use your own adipose (fat) tissue — carefully purified and precisely injected — to restore damaged tissues directly at the source.

No operating room. No implants. No long-term medications. Just science.

Frequently Asked Questions

Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ (Regenerative Matrix Therapy) is RMIC’s signature, patent-pending treatment protocol. It’s a minimally invasive, non-surgical therapy that uses your body’s own adipose (fat) tissue to help patients with joint pain, orthopedic degeneration, and soft tissue injuries. Through our proprietary Precision Adipose Modulation™ process, we collect, purify, and re-inject your tissue into the area of concern, targeting the source of pain to support your body’s natural recovery.

Although adipose tissue does contain a large population of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), called adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs), Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ is not marketed as a “stem cell therapy”.

Our protocol is designed to be consistent, compliant, and personalized. Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ uses purified adipose tissue in a physician-led clinical setting to provide a refined next-generation approach to orthopedic care. Our protocol has been reviewed by Health Canada with no objection.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is a commonly used injectable treatment derived from blood. While we often use PRP in conjunction with Regenerative Matrix Therapy™, the foundation of our protocol is adipose tissue — which contains a much more diverse array of biologically active cells and structural components.

Our Precision Adipose Modulation™ technique is unique to RMIC and reflects our commitment to advancing biologic therapy through science, safety, and personalization.

Adipose tissue — commonly known as body fat — is one of the most complex and versatile tissues in the human body. Far beyond storing energy, it plays an active role in tissue maintenance and biological support.

What makes adipose tissue so unique is its diversity of cell types, including:

  • White and brown adipocytes — energy-storing cells with metabolic function
  • Endothelial cells — which line blood vessels and support microvascular structure
  • Fibroblasts — key players in the structural integrity of connective tissue
  • Immune cells — including macrophages, T cells, B cells, and others
  • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) — known as adipose-derived stem cells, present in concentrated numbers within fat tissue

At RMIC, we developed Precision Adipose Modulation™ to carefully process and purify this tissue — preserving its unique characteristics and preparing it for targeted use as part of our Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ protocol.

In short: your own fat may be one of the most powerful resources your body has.

We’ve built a way to use it, purposefully and precisely.

Regenerative Matrix Therapy™, with or without PRP, is used to support patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, including:

  • Knee, hip, and shoulder osteoarthritis
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Ligament strains and partial tears
  • Plantar fasciitis and foot pain
  • SI joint and low back pain
  • Tennis elbow and other overuse syndromes

All cases are reviewed individually to determine if Regenerative Matrix Therapy is a good fit.

Although all medical procedures carry some amount of risk, Regenerative Matrix Therapy™ is a low-risk procedure that uses your own tissue (autologous), which reduces the risk of immune reaction or rejection. Our protocol aligns with regulatory standards for safety and clinical use. Procedures are performed in accredited outpatient clinics by trained RMIC-affiliated physicians. All physicians and clinics must follow strict safety and documentation standards.

Most patients report only mild soreness or swelling at the treatment site. You’ll be able to walk out of the clinic the same day, and most return to normal daily activities within a few days. We recommend avoiding high-impact exercise for 2 weeks, and your physician will provide a personalized recovery plan tailored to your goals and lifestyle.

Some patients begin to notice improvements in pain or mobility within a few weeks. For most, the full effect builds gradually over 3–6 months, and in many cases, the benefits can last well beyond the first year. As with all treatments, individual responses vary based on condition, anatomy, and activity level.
